Sammy was twelve years old when she passed away on August 24, 2014. She was a Fire and Rescue dog, therapy dog and much loved friend to Teresa and Bobby Wade. Anchor Bay Newfoundland's "Dixie Queen" was born December 11, 2001. We called her Sammy – Samantha Suzanne. She instantly worked her way into our hearts and lives. We loved doing the belly scratches as much as she enjoyed getting them. Sammy earned her Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog certification in 2003. She enjoyed visiting at several care facilities almost daily, visiting with her grandma, too. Sammy kept everyone busy as she got interested in search and rescue work. The training and education never seemed to discourage her. She was unfailingly "ready to go". She was a wonderful gentle giant who touched the lives of countless kids with her fire safety education in schools, at festivals, and other events. But most of all, she loved being at home, just hanging out on the couch or going for a short ride. Wow, what a special dog that God saw fit to give us for a while. We're blessed. Sammy passed by and wrapped us in her love while touching so many others as well. We love our Sammy! So sadly missed by Bobby, Teresa, and Tera.
